Bookworm: A Fun and Challenging Word Game - Download for Free

Bookworm is a puzzle game where you have to create words with the letter tiles in the field. Click on adjacent letters to form words and score points. The longer the words you create, the higher your score will be! There are also special tiles and bonus words. Beware of the red burning tiles, because if they reach the bottom of the screen the game ends.

Click on the letters you want to use to create a word. You can only select adjacent letters. Once you have formed the word you had in mind, click on submit and Lex the bookworm will eat the letter tiles you selected. New letters will be provided so there are always new options to explore.

In the original version, bonus words were displayed beneath Lex the bookworm starting from round 2. Forming these bonus words boosted your score. This feature is unfortunately removed from the version we currently have on our website.

Bookworm is a word puzzle game in which you form chains of letter tiles to create words. The longer the word you create the higher your score will be. However some special tiles can make matters more complicated. Burning tiles burn their way through the tiles around them if one hits the bottom of the board the game ends. Gem tiles appear as rewards for making long words and grant bonus points if used.

Bookworm is a game for word lovers one that challenges the vocabulary and the eye. Spotting an impressive word on the staggered board of tiles gives a great feeling of achievement. If you can't find a word you can gamble and rearrange the tiles but be warned: this also spawns a flood of burning tiles which can make things even worse. If you just want to mess around with some words and not have to deal with the time limit it's also possible to play in untimed mode. The charming game mascot Lex appeared in later sequels that combined word play with RPG-style battles.

If you pride yourself on your vocabulary or just love a good word puzzle Bookworm is a great way to pass some time. It doesn't have too much variety in its gameplay but the basic premise is enough to keep you coming back.

Bookworm is what you'd get if you mixed Scrabble tiles into a Tetris-style gameplay mechanic. The premise is simple: from a constant grid of off-set letters, form words to make them disappear. The longer and more complex the word is, of course, the more points are rewarded. The deeper players go, the more frequent the "burning" tiles show up; these are what dictate the game's end. If a "burning" tile works its way down the playfield and lands at the bottom of the pit, it's all over for the player. So, it's obviously important to remove these harmful tiles from play as quickly as possible. On the flipside, some tiles will reward players with additional points if they work those letters into words for the most points possible. During the action, players will also be faced with an additional task: to form a specific word for bonus points. This quota, while not necessary to succeed in the game, does keep players' minds sharp as they try to move the tiles in the bin to shift them in order to form that extra word.

Now, Bookworm is a fun little game. But that's exactly its problem: there's not much to it. All the game offers is a portable version of the free download that's been available on the net for several months. The only benefit on the Game Boy Advance is that it's now in a take-anywhere package, complete with cartridge save to record players' progress at any time. It doesn't feature any of the new enhancements added to the Deluxe edition featured on Popcap's website, including the faster-paced "Action" mode. As fun as the game is, its lack of any gameplay options is hard to ignore.

And boost your word power with fantastic gems, potions and treasures! Unlock mini-games, a fast-paced Arena mode, and the trivia-packed Tome of Knowledge4. Do you know the classic board game Boggle? It is where you have to jumble around a series of letters and then you make words with those letters. Well that is basically what you are doing here with BookWorm Deluxe. It is a very simple premise and I know firsthand that it sounds like this is the kind of game you will get bored with instantly. However, it is also the kind of game that you just keep on playing.

I was quite impressed that BookWorm Deluxe offered two modes of play. There is the Classic Mode which is probably what most people will stick with. This is the more laid-back kind of way to play and is a mode that I would say is very addictive. Here you can figure out words at your own pace, but you still have the danger of these red tiles which can burn letters and if the red tile gets all the way to the bottom it is game over.

There is also an Action Mode where things move at a much faster pace so you have to really be quick and come up with words fast or the game is over quickly. I really like both modes, but Classic is the one that I found most addictive.

Look I know on paper that BookWorm Deluxe does not sound like a very exciting game. However, if you do like word jumble style games, I think you are in for a good time here. It has a rather charming presentation to it and at the end of the day, it is a game that can be enjoyed by everyone.

Bookworm developer PopCap has released a new action-packed installment in the word game franchise, as Bookworm Heroes has now launched as a free download on iPhone and iPad.Bookworm Heroes allows players to compete in head-to-head battles as they form the best words possible from randomized letter tiles. Whether they're competing against a random opponent or their close friends, each game sees players forming words using any of the letters on the screen, whether they touch or not. The longer the word, the more damage it will do to your opponent, and vice versa. At the beginning of each battle, players choose from a variety of heroes, each of which costs coins to purchase and has its own individual stats. The game's mascot worm Lex, for instance, comes with Apple tiles that replenish players' health, while a "cyberpunk" character allows players to steal letters from their opponent's boards in order to create truly massive words."We're ecstatic to introduce the next chapter of Bookworm to iOS users in a new adaptation that brings multiplayer and social gameplay to what's previously been a solitary player experience," said Scott Willoughby, Bookworm franchise director at PopCap Games, via a company release. "Bookworm Heroes adds a new level of fun and challenge among friends, plus a ton of extras that we believe make this the best Bookworm iteration yet."Bookworm Heroes is now available to download for free on iPhone and iPad. Bookworm is a word-forming puzzle video game by PopCap Games. From a grid of available letters, players connect letters to form words. As words are formed, they are removed from the grid and the remaining letters collapse to fill the available space. Players earn more points by creating longer words or words which use less common letters and earn less for smaller words. In November 2006, PopCap Games released a sequel, Bookworm Adventures. Bookworm was released for the Nintendo DS digital distribution service DSiWare on November 30, 2009.[2] It has also been released on the regular Nintendo DS cartridge.[3]

Additional points are given for bonus words displayed in the game; additional bonus words formed during a single game produce increasing bonus values. In some versions one can also collect and complete "books" which are groups of words in a similar category. Once one completes the first of any of these words in a particular category it unlocks the book, and displays a complete list of the words needed to complete the book and get bonus points.

PopCap Games has released its casual game called the Bookworm for the iPhone. It is a highly popular word forming game that keeps you engaged for long hours. The new game inherits nearly the entire volume of words from the Oxford English Dictionary as well as various features that are found only in the iPhone version.
